ABOUT BILLY IDOL

Billy Idol was heavily influenced by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. He moved to New York from England in 1981 and released his first EP on Chrysalis Records in 1981. He would go on to release his debut album, titled Billy Idol, the next year. A single from his EP, “Dancing with Myself,” as well as one from his first album, “White Wedding,” were picked in late 1982 to be part of the MTV rotation; the channel was promoting British artists very heavily at that time. As a result, he became very well-known by the time he released his second EP in 1983. The singles “Rebel Yell” and “Eyes Without a Face” became top ten hits. His album Whiplash Smile, released in 1986, was also very well-received.

His album releases in the early 1990s were critical successes but did not match the same sales numbers of his previous records. After a drug overdose in 1994, he worked to control his habit. He would return to the limelight in the late 1990s with a cameo in the movie The Wedding Singer, and would mend fences with Steve Stevens in 1999. In 2005, he released the album Devil’s Playground, his first original album release in over a decade. His most recent album, Kings & Queens of the Underground, was released in 2014 and took over four years to create and perfect. He co-wrote every one of the eleven tracks on the album. The Kings & Queens of the Underground world tour began in November 2014 and ended in April 2015. Due to overwhelming demand, he added more tour dates in the summer and autumn of 2015.
