What's Hot South Florida

Last Wednesday started with the quarterly GFLGLCC Luncheon at J. Marks and ended with the 5th annual Woof Cuff and Uwe Schroeder benefit for Grateful Paws Dog and Cat Rescue at Georgie’s Alibi/Monkey Bar, which raised over $14,000. As a friend and a community member, I am so proud of Uwe. Starting Thursday, and going all weekend was the four-day celebration of the 10th anniversary of Scandals. Saturday night featured the Mr. Scandals Saloon contest and the sexy John won. I was a judge and this man was sexy in all three categories and was the clear winner in my opinion. Congrats to Ken, Howard, Craig and the entire staff on 10 fabulous years, and I wish them many more years of success! On Friday and Saturday night, Matthew Lombardo and Rick Murray presented the Tony Award winner for Kinky Boots, Billy Porter, as part of the South Beach Broadway Series at the Colony Theatre. Owners of Hotspots Media Group Peter Clark and Cleto Beuren, along with Genre Latino Cover Photographer Dale Stine and his friend Michael, went and said it was an amazing concert. Also on Friday and Saturday night, Le Boy presented adult video star and XBiz Erotic Star of the Year Landon Conrad live with two shows each night. During the day on Saturday, my friends Raul and Jorge celebrated the grand opening of their new salon Jolure on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables, and the place is amazing. It makes you want to get a complete makeover. Saturday night was the VIP party for the Florida AIDS Walk and Sunday was the 10th annual Florida AIDS Walk and Music Festival produced by AHF Pharmacy and starring Salt-N-Pepa. Once again it was an amazing event!

This is HOT

WHSF-3012_TIHInto the Woods was the first Broadway play I had ever seen and of course holds a special place in my heart. About a month after I saw it on Broadway Joanna Gleason won the Tony for best actress in a musical for playing the Bakers Wife, and hence a love for Broadway/Theater began. So I am sure you can all imagine how excited I was when I heard last year that they were making it into a movie and I saw the movie the first day it was out (Christmas Day) at 11am. For those of you who haven’t had the chance to see it or if you want to see it again, it is now out on DVD and Blu-ray and I highly recommend it.

From the director of “Chicago” and the producer of “Wicked” comes a modern twist on the beloved fairy tales you thought you knew. Academy Award®-Winning actress Meryl Streep leads an all-star cast in this enchanted adventure about daring to venture Into The Woods. Iconic characters, such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel, find their fates intertwined with a humble baker and his wife, whose longing to have a child sends them on a quest to reverse a witch’s (Streep) curse. This spellbinding adventure is everything you could ever wish for!WHSF-3012_TIH2

The cast consists of Meryl Streep as the Witch, Johnny Depp as the Wolf, Emily Blunt as the Baker’s Wife, James Corden as the Baker, Anna Kendrick as Cinderella, Chris Pine as Cinderella’s Prince, Lilla Crawford as Little Red Riding Hood, Daniel Huttlestone as Jack, MacKenzie Mauzy as Rapunzel and many more.
