This past weekend I crashed Friday night as my body was saying “ENOUGH.” On Saturday I went to The State of Florida Continental Pool Party and benefit at Depot. This was a benefit to raise money to send Corey’s (owner of the pageant) winners to Chicago to the Nationals in September. It was a very fun afternoon, especially the Swimsuit auction part…..sexy models!! Last Week in Review
As I told you in last week’s column we had an early deadline prior to July 4th weekend, so I will let the pics tell you the story.
Saturday night I was out and about in Wilton Manors and ran into Shangela, who was a contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race and was a pleasure to interview a few months back and equally as nice in person. She informed me she was performing at Matty’s on Sunday night and I promised her I would stop by. I did as did many other people as Matty’s was packed with Shangela fans who were all saying “Halleloo.” This was a fun show by a really nice person . Keep an eye on Shangela as she has a pilot in the making. Afterwards I stopped by The Manor for their monthly Bear Nation T Dance and watched the Wet Bear Contest where my friend Andrew (the Cub) won!

Staten Island Cakes is a new series from WE TV starring out gay man Vinny Buzzetta and his family who are a cast of characters. If you haven’t seen this show you can catch it on Tuesdays at 9pm with the finale of season 1 airing on August 9th. Vinny was born on October 4th, 1989 in Brooklyn, New York where he lived until he was 13 years old when he moved to Staten Island. Vinny always had a passion for cooking, experimenting in his mother’s kitchen while most of his buddies were outside playing ball.
So it was no surprise that after graduating from Xaverian in 2007, Vinny defied his parents’ wishes for him to apply to college, and enrolled at the prestigious French Culinary Institute of New York City. He became the youngest person ever to complete the program in February 2008 – where he graduated first in his class. Vinny was driving through Staten Island in July 2008 when he saw a vacant storefront on Forest Avenue. He knew that this location would be the perfect spot for his dream bakery and with some financial support from his Grandpa Joe, who always supported Vinny’s maverick spirit, he leased the location that same month.
On October 31st, 2008 Vinny opened the doors to “The Cake Artist” and never looked back. At just 21 years old, Vinny is running one of Staten Island’s hottest up-and-coming bakeries. He is constantly in the bakery perfecting the taste and decorative aspects of his cakes to ensure that he is turning out the best product he can. This dedication to his craft is reflected in the success Vinny has enjoyed at various pastry and cake competitions throughout the New York area. He won his first blue ribbon at the New York Restaurant and Hotel Show at the Jacob Javits Center in November 2009 at just 20 years old. Vinny’s success continued at the Taste of Staten Island competition where he won “Best Special Occasion Cake” in 2009 and then went on to win “Best Bakery on Staten Island” the following year in 2010. Staten Island Cakes features Vinny, Spiro (boyfriend), Cammy (mom), Kristin (sister), Crazy Joe (Grandpa), Joe (cousin) and Rob (stepdad). Check it out!
